Andy Griffith attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he earned a degree in music. Andy Griffith became a regular on the popular shows including The Ed Sullivan Show and The Steve Allen Show doing his hilarious "hillbilly" routines discussing everything from Shakespeare to Football. These great stories were included on the albums What it is, is Andy as well as the Wit & Wisdom of Andy Griffith. Andy Griffith was cast in the Broadway play No Time for Sergeants in 1955, and later cast again in the film version. Andy Griffith caught the attention of many with his stunning performance in 1957 film A Face in the Crowd. Andy Griffith's big break came with the spin-off from The Danny Thomas Show as Sheriff Andy Taylor in the Andy Griffith Show. Andy Griffith created his own production company in 1972 producing several movies and television series, including his portrayal of criminal defense lawyer Ben Matlock in the 1986 series Matlock. Andy Griffith has also released many other humorous albums as well as his timeless gospel recordings.
